How to remove stains

Stains on relatively flat surfaces, tables for example, can be cleaned by spraying detergent and wiping clean with a cloth. For stains on textured wallpaper, first remove as much as you can using a toothbrush and toothpaste then wipe clean with a cloth. For stains on clothing, wash as instructed on the clothing label.
Unfortunately stains on fusuma paper (paper on traditional sliding doors) cannot be removed.

Bent/melted

The crayons meet JIS standards which sets out that it will not bend/warp under temperatures up to 37 degrees Celsius. Our crayons only start melting from 50 degrees Celsius and only become completely liquid by 80 degrees Celsius. Accordingly, leaving it next direct sunlight or next to a heater will cause it to bend/warp.

Ingredients and safety

This product is made using wax, oil, coloring and talk. All ingredients used are of a certain safety level with little to no adverse effects if accidentally ingested. This product bears the AP mark (non-toxic certification) issued by the ACMI. However, please take extra care in ensuring that young children do not put these into their mouths as it can be as a potential choking hazard.

How many colors per set?

The JIS (Japan Industrial Standards) criteria is 55 colors. However, most domestic brands only have 24 color sets. Crayola boasts a 100 color set aimed at professional artists.

Disposal and recycling

Once finished, the crayons can be disposed of together with other combustibles rubbish. The container/packaging should be recycled in accordance with the local regulations.

Craypas and Crayon

Craypas is a Sakura CrayPas Corporation trademark. Crayon, on the other hand, is a general term/noun. Accordingly Craypas is a brand of crayon (much like the way Tekkannon is a brand/type of oolong tea). However, according to Sakura CrayPas Corporation, CrayPas is a unique art/drawing material that takes the best of both crayons and oil pastels; thus CrayPas can also be a term/noun alongside crayons.

Oil Pastels and Crayon

Oil pastels are a softer form of crayon that make is easier to blend and layer colors. From another perspective, oil pastels are pastels infused with wax and oil to make it transferable to paper. Although similar in ingredients, the two differ greatly in terms of mixture ratios and grade. Also, oil pastels aimed at professionals tend to use better coloring for longevity and resistance to fading over time.

Unlike oil pastels, regular pastels do not contain oils or wax. Instead, pastels are made by combining coloring and a light adhesive before being left to dry into a ‘stick’ shape. ?Pastels has little to no adhesion or transferability to paper and is typically used by rubbing with fingers. Occasionally, some manufacturers mistaken brand their oil pastels as just ‘pastels’.

BabyColor

Removing stains

BabyColor naturally doesn’t transfer well on to glossy or slippery surfaces like tables and doors. However, if you do find a stain, this can easily be removed using an eraser. Unfortunately, stains on fusuma paper cannot be removed completely and can only be made less apparent by using an eraser. Stains on clothing can easily be removed by simply by washing.

Where to buy

Purchases can be made via online shopping sites including Amazon and Rakuten as well as from local retailers (Toys R Us, Nishimatsuya department store and many more). If purchasing the item is proving exceptionally difficult, we may be able to sell directly to you subject to terms and conditions.

Ingredients and safety

This product is made using coloring, wax, paraffin oil, calcium carbonate and polyethylene. An easier way to think of this product is to imagine regular crayon combined with polyethylene. This product bears the AP mark (non-toxic certification) issued by the ACMI. It has also been tested on rats by mixing it into the feed which consequently passed the safety test. Although the ingredients are safe, biting and breaking the product is dangerous. The broken pieces can potentially damage soft tissue. Parents of children who frequently put foreign objects into their mouths should think twice before purchasing this product.

In the event that a person treads on the product and it breaks, immediately dispose of the broken pieces. To maintain good hygiene levels, please also read the “Is it washable?” section.

Buying a single color

We do not usually sell one color on its own. However, subject to terms and conditions, we may be able to supply this directly to you.

Muted colors/doesn’t draw ?

BabyColor is made for children over 2 years and up. Accordingly, these crayons have been designed for children who haven’t yet learnt how to hold pens and pencils properly.

As part of this, a lot of plastic has been added to the mixture to make the product solid enough so that it doesn’t easily transfer onto hands and clothing. This makes BabyColor extremely durable, even when thrown about or dropped. Due to its hard nature, the colors are similar to coloring pencils and as such can also be made lighter by using an eraser. Please note that this product will not show on glossy or slippery surfaces such as art paper to achieve a more vibrant look, use slighter coarser drawing paper or similar materials. Beyond that, we advise using regular crayons.

Is it washable?

BabyColor can be washed with water to maintain good hygiene levels. First, wash the product gently in the hand using soap or detergent. Then rinse with clean water before drying with a cloth.

Why is there a hole? ?

BabyColor is hollow on the inside so that it can be stacked. At the tip is a little hole that allows air to pass through which helps reduce the risk of choking. Although there have been no reported cases of this to date, please take due care.

Disposal and recycling ?

BabyColor can be disposed of together with other combustibles. The container/packaging can be recycled in accordance with your local regulations.

Solid Water Colors, Poster Colors, Cake Colors

Strange odor/mold ?

If you notice a strange odor form the product, it is most likely going bad. This is due to the dextrin (used in the formula for its soluble properties) which is extracted from a type of starch and is therefore naturally prone to developing mold. Preservatives have been added to prevent this from happening. However, these have been kept to moderate levels so as not be harmful if accidentally ingested. Over time, this product will inevitably go bad/moldy.

Regarding the paints and Poster Colors, after using the required amount, do not put the excess back into the container. With the Cake Colors, only pack these away once it has completely dried. For all of the above, please be aware that these will not last over long periods of time.

Stains on clothes ?

Please follow the washing instructions on the label of the clothing. Unfortunately, these stain cannot be removed completely.

Ingredients and safety

This product is made using Kaolin clay, glycerin, dextrin solution, preservatives and surfactants. Cake Color is made by dehydrating these ingredients. These are made using the safest ingredients possible and will not have adverse effects even when accidentally ingested (in small quantities). This product bears the AP mark (non-toxic certification) issued by the ACMI.

Majelle

For those who can’t draw or use the product well ?

As shown in the Majelle user diagram, press down the edges of the stick against the paper with sufficient force. Using the flat areas of the stick makes drawing difficult.

Different from crayons?

Both the ingredients and manufacturing processes differ greatly from crayons. Crayons are oil based and as such, they repel water and are insoluble as well. In contrast, Majelle will repel water but will become soluble after some rubbing. Majelle has the characteristic of both oil based and water based products. Additionally, crayons will melt with heat and harden once cooled but Majelle generally does not melt when heated. However, if left in an environment that’s hotter than 55 degrees, it will become extremely brittle. Accordingly, just as with crayons, we recommend that this not be left in hot places such as inside a car.

Ingredients and safety

This product is made using safe materials although we have not made the exact ingredients publically available.

Disposal and recycling

Majelle can be disposed of together with other combustibles. The product itself will turn to carbon when burned. The product will stop burning if removed from the fire. The container/packaging can be recycled in accordance with your local regulations.

Markers

Ingredients and safety

If you inhale with the tip to your mouth, ink will come out form the marker. This type of incident is a rare occurrence. However, in the unlikely event that this happens, there should be little to no adverse effects on that person’s health as we use relatively safe materials and ingredients (provided the ingested amount is small). Be sure to gargle after such an incident.

You may notice your lips and tongue have become colored by the ink. This is only temporary.

This product bears the AP mark (non-toxic certification) issued by the ACMI.

Scraping/difficulty drawing ?

Although these markers can be used to draw continuously for an equivalent distance of more than 300m, some users may use up the ink without noticing. If the lifespan was significantly shorter than this it is most likely due to the cap not being properly placed and the ink drying out as a result. If nothing seems to be drawing from the outset, then it is most likely a defective unit.

Disposal and recycling

The markers can be disposed of together with other plastics. The front and end caps are made of polyethylene and polypropylene respectively whilst the center section (ink reservoir) is made from polyester. The container/packaging can be recycled in accordance with your local regulations.
